    Which Super Mario?

There have been quite a few

    :D

    N64 Rules!

As I said in my post, "Super Mario World," that classic SNES game.

I've just got my first - an old PSX. Oldish school (perhaps middle aged school).

Wow, I still consider this new-school. I listed my N64, but that still doesn't feel old school to me. I think you've gotta be talking SNES/Genesis or older. At the very least, you gotta pull out Sega Saturn (or Sega CD, maybe). I dunno, maybe it's just me. Maybe I'm becoming an old, old man.

I am shopping around for a new notebook. Came across this last night. It is called the Northgate X-Book (http://www.northgate.com/content/products/notebook_desktops/xnotebook/). It has up to a 2.8 Ghz P4. That is 2.0 Ghz faster than the PowerBook. Now that is some freakin' power.

X-Book is a minimum 2-3.5 times faster. Since it is faster, I don't need a 5 hour battery when I can get the job done in 2 hours. I would rather spend my time to kick back and read a book, listen to music, or spend time with my family.

Apple better get its a** in gear soon.

    Peter

I can't really explain it, but I do know the noise has ceased entirely since installing the new mouse and software.

Firstly, I don't ahve that problem you have... secondly, how did it happen, and what kind of noise was it? I dont' think that the mouse software itself did it, it had to have been something remotely related.

    Folding on a MacBook....?

Won't it get toasty when it folds for hours....?

I tried to do it back in the day on my Powerbook Ti, and it got hot. The fans on that thing howled like banshees, too. Good times! But if he wants to do it while it's on a desk or stand, more power to him!

Phones are what Apple needs to get into to leverage iTunes. Motorola just did not understand the concept and even Jobs didn't look too keen on it. The problem was that too much of the design was Motorola and not enough Apple. The problem on Apple's end is the R&D costs to be able to engineer a phone on their own. It's not like the 1G iPod for sure that way, where they lifted a number of off-the-shelf stuff to engineer a player. However it was pretty obvious that Apple was taking baby steps towards introducing a phone with the Motorola connection. They need to get a 'true Apple' phone out, or Sony has every chance of succeeding where it lost with the Walkman.

Well, there's been some news (http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=5267) going around about 19" iMacs arriving in the fourth quarter.

But I am compelled to speculate on the possibility of a 'Power Series' line of iMacs, sporting both 19" and 21" screens and G5 64-bit, single processors. These high-end machines would have larger bases with one expandable AGP and one expandable PCI slot. They would fill the gap between consumer-level iMacs and the behometh PowerMac Workstation line(s).

I also envision a low-end Consumer Series line of iMacs sporting G4 processors and 17" and 19" screens. These machines would not be expandable beyond the memory and addition of an Airport card.

Technically a 21" iMac is possible to balance, but probably only if there is a larger, heavier, base. Certainly I don't think that iMacs should have screens any bigger than 21". It just doesn't sound feasible for a system not geared for professional use.

    What do you think? :p

    I'm playing it! :D

I actually was in the original beta for Uru Live when it was still an Ubisoft project back in mid-to-late 2003. When I heard it was being resurrected (and ported to Intel Macs), I got very excited, and actually got into the new beta as well. I'm enjoying it quite a lot, it's definitely quite cool for a Myst fan to be able to wander the caverns of D'ni, and the user community is very passionate (to the point of framing most discussions within public areas of the game as "in cavern," or role-playing as if the experience is real) and helpful (there are always people willing to help with the couple group puzzles or give you hints/assistance if you're stuck).

I was mad at his reaction, which seemed kinda childish at the time, and at the fact that he didn't stick around to defend himself. It's kinda hard to trust someone new, who just kinda says (or posts) something and can't back it up.

I was hoping to pull him out of hiding, but in retrospect I kinda sounded like a jerk (as per the apology). But I still say you need to have a thick skin to post around here. Especially if you present something as fact. Especially if you don't back it up. Plus it could have been much worse. You should have seen Alpha's replies. Brutle.

Sometimes we can forget this is supposed to be a fun site to discuss a HOBBY we enjoy.

Please don't flame me if you use your Mac for work. I did, and will for my next Mac. But let's be honest, coming here, reading and posting about rumors is mostly recreational.

Feel free to flame me for anything else. As long as it's somewhat insightful, and you're not just spelling things that you made up wrong. And ungrammaticallikely. :D

I just don't have enough time/interest. The closest thing I have to myspace is facebook, and I barely use that.

To the above poster: I probably am going to do absolutely nothing to limit what my kids do on the internet, because I fear that they will be able to outwit me, much like I outwit my parents.

A TiBook major upgrade must be releasing between the next few weeks - why? Go to the Apple homepage, click on "Hardware" and open up your eyes: Where's the TiBook? Only listed by a hyperlink...mmmh.

Logically, the next generation MUST have an 800 (or 867) MHZ lower price model TiBook and a 1MHZ high-end TiBook.

Next iBook generation (maybe in January 2003?) must have 700 Mhz entry-version and 867 or 900 MHZ high-end.

    That's what my knowledge says.

There are still other details in equipment that positionate the TiBook above the iBook: Think of the better graphic device, more Ram, 15 Inch display (next iBook probably has 13 inch only, only in terms of without an alternative), maybe superdrive, maybe wLan, maybe Bluetooth...

I think a significant factor (note: no pretension of single factors) is that DDR is more likely to be mainstream commodity over the next year, which adds a level of certainty for both pricing and just plain availablity that otherwise Apple probably don't wish to expose themselves to.

In other words, if you don't shape the market, use what the market has chosen or pay an additional price.
