they need more consistency if anything between their apps. It feels as if I'm buying several different programs from different companies rather than a suite. MS Office is almost a better suite

QEMU is neat and all, but it can barely emulate an x86 system on real x86 hardware. I'd hate to see how it runs on a PPC...

I'm sorry, but that just looks like an iPod that was dropped the exact same way about 1000 times.
I think that Apple has better design sence than that. ;)

Amen to that! I wonder, the new dual duallies (or dual quads), do they have two or four (four or eight for the quads) WU's at a time? Or can one duallie do one WU and are both processors on one chip working on the same WU?
1 WU per core. The folding app isn't SMP aware in any way. That it's dual core doesn't change anything.
4 WU at the same time (for the Quad) isn't so bad though.

Shrek,
Sure cell phones are popular, but the market is cut-throat. It's getting more and more commiditzed (is that a word?) every day. This is not a buisiness that Apple wants to be in, unless they have something compelling that people will buy. And that's my point. What can Apple add to a cell phone that will make it compelling enough for someone to buy. They can't rest on their pretty designs (because Nokia already has that cornered).
Hey, it's my opinion, but cell phones would be a disaster. PDA's now that's a different story.
NOTE - the only thing that I could see Apple doing is badging someone else's phone and calling it an iPhone. But that's not really Apple's style.
Oh yeah, what exactly is a pro-phone?

Steve Jobs should just change his mind and port X to x86... He's on a roll now, but Apple history is ... a rollercoaster =\.
It has been said time and time again on this site and others, we will NEVER see an x86 version of Mac OsX. It will never happen, as it will kill Apple. We don't want to see that happen. Old but relevant (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=26800) thread about the switch to x86 this one is fresh (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=90497), and is about the same subject, non x86ing Mac OsX.

Ok, so reimplementing the MacOS Toolbox (even if it's now called "Carbon") on yet another platform is no big task?

You are laughable. I would love to have a Dual 1.25 even though you think it is slow, I bet it really goes.

I'd say they've got the creative market sewn up (with the help of Adobe) and the only thing they might start to need to make is HDTVs for Post production...
But that's all I can think of...

Yeah, so its a real quick question, but I began folding on May 6th, using one computer (was gonna use two but that one is not on all the time), an Intel P4 2.4 GHz HT model, and have done the following:
41 WUs
~4,000 points
That is about a month and a half (5/6/2005 to 6/24/2005)
Is that normal or WAY too little?
Thanks...

Have been running Folding (GUI) on three Macs for the past few months:
PB G4 1.33GHz, 1GB RAM, 24x7
iMac G4 800, 1GB RAM, 24x7
iMac G4 700, 576MB RAM, 24x7
Combined, those have been averaging about 2,600 points per month for me.
Just added today (console):
a 3.6GHz Xeon, 1GB RAM, 800MHz system bus
a Dual 2.4GHz Xeon, 2GB RAM, 400Mhz system bus
How much of a jump in production should I see?

you know, who cares if it's a bit slower? the benefits outweigh the losses. you gain More HD bays, another optical bays, and another on board HD Bus. I own a dual 867 and obviously chose it over the old dual gig for these reasons.

Well flash takes some CPU grunt to support...if you have a G3 or a low-end G4, its not surprising that flash will have a huge hit on ur CPU utilization. Even at my clock speeds, it still takes a 15-20% chunk, which is alot.
Another method is to force flash animations to only play when you click on them:
http://www.floppymoose.com/
Go to the bottom of the page for the specialized flash-ad blocking code. It enables you to have all flash blocked on initial load-up. If you wanna see it, you simply click the region where the flash woudl be.

My advise to you: is to click the link, pay attention, quit with this Intel propaganda crap, and post a better thread!!!  :p

I started doing it because I have my iMac on all the time...actually, I started folding on my PowerBook G4 running at 667 MHz...not a lot of productivity, but it helped.
I'm excited to get my MacBook Pro (probably this week) and start on it...although the F@H website does not have an Intel version yet.

I saw the XRaid announcement. I am just saying its release appears immenent (sp?). About the power usages, if it is only forty more watts, I could see that. The two extra HDs take about twenty, and the new optical and bus could use the other twenty. But, according to Apples website:
XServe:
"Maximum input current: 3.6A
...
 Maximum continuous power: 400W"
and
PowerMac:
"Maximum current: 6.5A (low voltage range) or 7.5A (high voltage range)"
True, Apple does not specify the wattage of the new machines. But, with my limited understanding of wattage, if the amps double and the volts stay constant, the wattage changes (to about 700ish). Though, maybe this is not true.

At least then you'd be going in style, and would be washed down with a rather nice bottle of Chianti.
