They should have demand free MacBooks:D for the time and embrassment of being stuck in an elevator.
I'm sure they got something in return...even if it was a good pat on the back :o

I was, but had some problems with the firewall. Folding couldn't get through, and the IT department also couldn't figure it out and didn't want to spend to much time into it because they didn't support the app. At first I emailed a finished WU to home, opened VPC to send the windoos WU to Stanford and get a new one. Emailed that back to work, but the emailserver@work always said that it was a virus! So, had to upload the new WU to a website and download it at work (don't have an usb stick, do have an iPodwith firewire, but my workpc doesn't have firewire :(). At first this worked, but later, when I did it with several WU's, I didn't get any points for them. So I stopped. Especially because that was the only reason to use my B&W for VPC, didn't had version 7 for the G5. Maybe if I have that, I might start again!

so here is what I have been able to gather from the pain of waiting for the new PB......
Educational discount ends 9/25
Employee discount ends 9/30
Amazon.com out of 667 with note that it is to be replaced with 800
Some guy in Holland couldn't buy a new PB because they were out of stock and could not get any more (this is a tough one to put faith in)
Some uni's have additional discount until 9/30 (namely san jose state)
Pioneer has dvd-r notebook drives to be released in 4th quarter
ATi has released new mobility 9000 graphics chip to be released next month (although compaq is slated to be the one releasing these next month, we can hope PB's have them though).
So???....???? now we just wait and see.

...But the Mac users spend hours chatting through online forums, mainly about the inefficiencies of the PC world.
But it beats a PeeCee user's routine. Mac users are so productive that we get our work done in no time, so we simply spend the rest of the day online chatting. ;) :) :)
In the meantime, we can speculate that we Mac users spend our time more productively and perhaps we waste our time more productively too.
Absolutely! :D

"AMD will beat Apple anyway. Hammer versions of Athlons are due out early next year to mid next year"
As you well know, Apple is not competing directly with AMD. Apple is competing with the PC manufactures (Dell, Gateway, etc.) using 64-bit AMD chips and OS's that would utilize 64-bit technology from say, Microsoft.
There definitely is a Hammer chip, but which manufactures are vowing to use it, and will there be a Microsoft OS 64-bit compliant Windows -- all complete and ready by the time the AMD chip is released. In addition, are these companies looking to produce Desktops with this technology, or more primarily focusing on server use. Do these manufactures even have incentives to upgrade to 64-bit technology when they have 3+ Ghz intels, and AMDs? For all lmarketing purposes, they would be downgrading (1.8 ghz (64) compared to 3+ ghz (32)).
I wouldn't count Apple out on this one -- them being first and doing it well. I would say they have incentives to integrate this 64-bit tech for the pro side -- the side of their product line that might be hurting. How do we know that Apple hasn't been colaborating with IBM and configuring OS X Panther (or whatever) to run spanking fast with the new chips? And have PowerMacs already working at headquarters?
And
The unique thing about Apple is that in order for this 64-bit thing to take hold, it needs to colaborate with two people: itself and IBM.
With other manufactures, they have to colaborate with: themselves, Microsoft, and the Chip maker.
Maybe Apple can be first?
I don't know, it is just a brainstorm...

How much will this chip cost, I wonder? How large is it? Will we see these in any consumer products or laptops, or will the iBook still be stuck with a G3?
It's exciting, but not that exciting if these things are answered negativly...

This is incorrect; Smash Bros, Strikers, and BWii have all been stated to have online play, and BWii's LAN capabilities were demoed at Leipzig.
Smash bros, really? God that would be so awesome if it was online!

Tabbed browsing alone was worth it let alone the speed and pop up blocker.
Thanks for the advice all. I suppose I don't really use Windows for web browsing enough to bother changing my ways and using Firefox (yes, I do have it downloaded and yes, I am very lazy). I haven't noticed a speed difference on the sites I regularly visit and the pop-up blocker is pretty adequate. I use Safari on Mac, so it's not like I don't know what a great browser is like.
Back on the topic, I'm glad the Firefox phenomena is growing so rapidly, if only for its ability into scaring Microsoft into making something even better (which may or may not necessarily happen - IE 7.0 looks like it will be exactly the same, more of a marketing scheme IMO). :)

All I have to say don't hope too much about graphic card like the radeon 9000. They have include a new one in the last revision and as we all know, the graphic card in mac model are ALL oudated card selling at too high price.
What the ***** you think somebody can do with a GForce 2 MX right now? it's slow as hell! but they keep it in the iMac! The GForce 4 MX is base on the GForce 2 MX with few add-on no big difference there! the tower with the GForce 4 Ti are the only reasonnable thing you could get, the radeon 9000 is good for the iMac not the pro tower damn! and we still have the lower RAM possible on each card at the higher price!
Video card on the Mac is, for my point of view, the BIGGEST Godzila flaw.
It's no more true that life lenght of Mac are longer then PC becaus of video card. And we still can't buy newest video card from ATI (wow a 8500, not bad but no ADC really cool! they hold the 9000 pro with a big 64 VRAM, and for when the 9700, probably never) or nVidia (don't sell at all, except the GForce 4 Ti on the apple store wich are really overprice, even after a years the price aren't moving!)
I'm thinking to switch to PC and run Linux soon, I'm tired of all this. Bad bad sad thing, I really love Mac OS X wich is formidable, why can't we have decent hardware to go with this at a reasonnable price since around 85% of the piece in a Mac are PC components? I know developping and research cost a lot, but I'm tired to pay for iPhoto, iTunes or iDon'tcare when I buy a video card, when I buy my computer hardware! damn sold the soft separetly please!

Probably because from their experience, most people who do claim they don't have a TV are found to have had one after investigation so odds are... they're lying.
On the other hand, I honestly don't have one and have no problem letting anyone from TV Licensing into the flat to confirm the situation. Don't miss having one at all.
I think the broader issue here is that television is simply a product like any other, regardless of its popularity. To be in a situation where you have to suffer an invasion of privacy just to prove that you don't want to buy a product is, quite frankly, bollocks.

Sounds useful--but OS X will do encrypted SparseImages for free, without much loss of convenience. And they change size dynamically. And they make a Mac volume even on a Windows-format iPod.

Thanks to everyone for your insight. Seeing as how I have some time tonight and tomorrow and possibly over the weekend, I believe I will fire it up and see how it goes.
I am not opposed to forming up with anyone on occasion. I just don't want to have to depend on it. I would simply like to be able to get online, play and have a good time regardless of who else is on.
What I was hoping I could avoid was sitting around in a group of prepubescent boys listening to them talk about how cool they say they are all while we wait for the giant pickle monster to repop so that the pimple faced leader can bark commands at me so that I can have a shot to obtain the uber l33t girdle that I need to protect myself from the kid with anger issues who hunts down newbs to somehow justify his existence. I had my fill of that playing MUDs and it no longer fits my concept of fun.
Hmm. Nature of the beast if you're on a PvP server - but not all. I quit WoW after a year of playing - it just got tiresome. Especially when you get to the stage of pure leveling, it's pointless. However I have a mate that plays most evenings and does have fun regardless if he's in a group. He has about eight characters at varying levels and he enjoys that aspect of it. It really, really depends what you're after.

I had ordered 8 CDs from Amazon.com (7 used, 1 new) from Amazon.com, and I got the used ones in under a week. The new one was only 25 cents, and took longer to be delivered.
The only things I found to be a bytch with on the site were specific rules on how to use my gift certificate, and the S&H charges for each CD.
Usually, the MacMall, MacZone, MacConnection and MacWarehouse prices stay relatively the same, for whatever reason. Most other places will probably have something cheaper.
