"slow witted", possibly, thats really a matter of opinion. But the late great spikey ate chickens for breakfast, especially the ones that ran away.
Ofcourse, i am but a humble observer................. ;)
I seriously doubt that there is any correlation between joey j's absence (or mine or anyone else for that matter) with the extent to which that person was "flamed."

Very good, if not long and scattered, (mentioning one change then going back five years onto a different section).
If you split this into pages, add photos, diagrams, (e.g. flow charts), and expand sections seperate from the main article about certain technical aspects, this would make quite a good magazine article. I could see this in glossy format expanding over 10 or more pages.

you got the link, I'd like to read more. Regardless of what happens with the Wintel world, Apple needs to do something about getting faster processors, period.

Considering that the team was once 33 (without aggregates), it's not so bad still.
Still, the more people folding for the team the better.

Well there's one dramatic difference:
64 - bit only OS X 10.3.... so no more Mac OS 9 boot (just Classic mode).
32 - bit should still be able to boot OS 9

The optimized builds (well at least mine (http://camino.ilnm.com)) aren't based on the same code as 0.8.3, but off of the latest code.

I have done some research and discussed with some people and I think that in the end the P4's SIMD abilities are not implemented in the same way as those on the G4. Specifically, although Intel is not very up-front about it, there may not even be "SSE units" like there is an AltiVec unit. The SSE instructions may simply be ran through the same hardware the runs the normal instructions, except that since a single SIMD instruction means a lot more, the P4 is able to achieve higher efficientcy by using them over the standard code.
In the end it is not accurate to say that the P4 runs it "SIMD unit" at 1.4ghz or any other speed, because it just isn't clear what exactly is the SIMD unit and what is the rest of the processor. It's all squished together.
It is clear that AltiVec can do more per clock, but I can't say how much more and in what situations. Answering that will require a lot of research, and this is the weekend.

I want an ibook that is a little smaller than the newton. Just take out the big screen, keyboard, and cd. Keep all the connections and ad a little floating pallete to make navigation easier in OS X. It would be like a Pocket PC but it would have the same power as the ibook because all the guts would be almost the same. Apple already has all the parts, the only problem is the price. So, right now even in the 21st century, the price on this kind of technology done right would be too high for the average user. Maybe they would do better to just make an iBook under a thousand. It would be slow for power users, but just fine for school.

OK, so maybe all you nay sayers and jokesters on my 'so tuesday' thread might just be mistaken...
im just hopin for a late announcement today. change up on the old site is good news. maybe they were aiming for today but couldn't pull together the site to refleckt on all the good crap comin out so fast, so it might be late today, or tommorow. keep in mind that the average hours will end in 15 min, so they might just do it tommorow for a fresh day.

I think this iPhone is a dumb idea. They should concentrate on something cool, that everyone would like. My suggestion is iMidget. You get your very own midget to help you with your mac. The midget will not only be able to help you with your day to day work, but if you have an AppleCare plan, the midget will be able to assist you with all of your problems.

On a similar note, does anyone know how long it takes for a message/email to arrive when sending from a Wii? And if it's a fixed time? Wii to Wii seems varied between 30 seconds to a few minutes, email takes up to 15 minutes. Just wondering if it's my connection is all.
Wii to email is no more than a minute for me, Wii to Wii i can't say, but ive had responses back to me within a matter of minutes so i will assume its just as speedy as email.

I encourage the OmniWeb development team to keep informed of WebCore updates and build a new OmniWeb when they decide that the updates are worth a new build. Is there any doubt they're not already doing that?

Echoing a comment I saw elsewhere, why doesn't someone just hire this guy. It probably costs more for Apple to sue each person than it would be to hire them and keep them busy fixing these problems internally.
Maybe he's not for hire. Not everyone can be bought. Or, maybe he's already working for Napster.

Wow you took all that time to reply to a dead topic that everybody else ignored for over a day?
FYI, it's not just a different manufacturer, the newer drive burns CDs faster and does DVD-RAM also.

Another reason? What are the other reasons?
It's all sour grapes over obsolete releases. Don't worry about it if you're using the current stuff.

I glance at DealMac (http://dealmac.com) every day just to make sure there's nothing awesome that I didn't know I wanted that I can get for cheap (their tagline, "How to go broke saving money", is the most accurate I've ever seen), but one thing I don't expect from that site is humor.
Well, today, if you go and scroll down to a deal on a 7" digital picture frame (Photo category), you will see the following, which conntains an aside I personally found absolutely hilarious for some reason:
PhotoShare 7" Digital Photo Frame for $94 shipped
Buy.com cut its price on the PhotoShare 7" Digital Photo Leather Frame, model no. DAF7NBR, to $93.99. (Angry baby photo not included. We hope.) With free shipping, that's a $6 overnight drop and the lowest total price we've seen. Able to read Memory Stick or Secure Digital card formats, this frame features AV output jacks, AC adapter, USB cable, AV cable, and removable leather display frame. Shutterfly adds 15 5x7" digital prints for free. Deal ends June 15.
Emphasis mine... and indeed, if you look at Buy.com's product photography, the picture they've chosen to showcase it with can only be described as an "angry baby photo". Go to Buy.com and check out the full-sized images for the full effect--it's kind of scary.

DRM is a big, fat target for every hacker in the world. I doubt very much it will ever be perfect. It can't be. It would be easy to encrypt music so badly that you couldn't play it. To allow legit users to listen to it means the key is already there. The hacker just finds it.

you have too much faith that apple is a benevolent corporation because there is no such thing.
A corporation is only as good as its consumers, just as a government is only as good as its people.

30'' would suck... the resolution just wouldnt be there. Just for example: Samsung makes a 30'' LCD TV that can be used as a computer monitor, but its max resolution is 1024x768. A 30'' with good resolution would cost a frickin fortune... 10 thousand or more

DONT buy one from EB, Gamestop, Rhino Games or the like.
This is not always true, but the fact that it CAN be true, should keep you far away. They accept opened XBOXs as trades. Meaning, someone opened the actual machine (you can tell because the screw on the bottom are found under the rubber feet and stickers) probably screwed it up royally and just traded it off.
Also, I havent been in a store for a bit but the markup, as usual, is horrendous. A used XBOX for $80 is a rip IMO. When on eBay you can find the same thing, probably never opened, with tons of games and accessories for only a few dollars more.
Craiglist is also a great place to check out.
If you want an older XBOX, I hope you are gonna mod that bad boy!? This makes it worth every penny and will pay for itself in entertainment, if you are so inclined.
