Alpha did use the word "Peace" in the Upcoming G5, G6, G7 thread, which suffered dearly due to the hands of spikey, who doesn't seem to be coming back.

WARNING: DO NOT search for my first post. You will (hate)^3 it. It's my "introduction" to self-embarassment.

Ranked #385 on the MacRumors team. Started folding in March or April. Let's get 'em.

My attention was brought to Folding@home and I've been using the GUI version (for now) for about a week now. I've joined the MacRumor's team and find the concept behind the software to be quite interesting and worthwhile.

The one I'm working on is also called p2305_BBA5_Mut.

Here's the exact (translated) text from the site:

According to an American source, that we will keep anonymous, the future of G5 is compromised.
Financial difficulties and of production of Motorola return its exit for difficult January trs.

People from IBM and AMD were seen on several occasions in the buildings of APPLE with Cupertino.
obviously, nothing filtered meetings which were held.

One would however say well that APPLE is actively seeking a substitute in failing Motorola.

So if this is accurate, (probably not) Moto's out and the next chip will be from IBM, AMD or some kind of new chip developed between the three. :)

I don't even know whether there are alternative routes to accessing FP ops on an x86 these days, as its ages since I've been interested in that level (tad of compiler writing in my history). [Intel did always work pretty hard to get IEEE FP conformance though, which is more than most other CPU mnfs.]

The limited number of GPRs is also a design flaw that has largely been worked around.

Maybe the best way to get an understanding of what Intel privately thinks is good/bad about x86 ISA is to look at what sorts of x86 instructions get translated into what sort of micro-ops internally - the larger the change, the less Intel like their original decisions.

Apple and x86 won't happen any time soon.

Why should I buy apple branded hardware when I source my own and build it cheaply and simply buy a copy of OSX?

There goes apples biggest revenue stream...

Even if there was some form of hardware protection to prevent this it wouldn't take long for someone to hack it....

Ok... So maybe IBM isn't interested in putting Altivec instructions in their PowerPCs.

But tell me, what would stop Motorola or another Altivec licensee from creating a co-processor that handles Altivec instructions?

Could we be looking at IBM G5s with a Motorola (or other party) Altivec unit?

Sebastian Ballas, PearPC's lead developer, said a screenshot of CherryOS shows a variable named "SPIRO MULTIMAX 3000," a nonsensical term Ballas claims to have invented for use in PearPC.
Busted. Fess up dude, anyone who's read the story knows this is a hoax.

If you want to buy one, it doesn't really matter when you buy it because they're not coming out with a new model. :o

People thinking they will do so fail to realize that doing that would split the market between "old 360" owners and "new 360" owners, which means a) you'd piss off a lot of people who bought the original, and b) some 360s would have better tech specs than others so you'd potentially have to recode games to take advantage of HDMI and the larger HD.

Microsoft has gone on record saying that the HDMI/120g HD model is a devkit prototype only and will never see the light of day. :o

I agree with you 100%. Microsoft is either going to release an HDMI cable that works with existing systems or they won't do anything. It makes no sense for them to release a new system with added features that can't be added to a previous model. I can see them releasing a larger hard drive or changing the color, but that doesn't make it any different than the previous system. Think about any console design update, the PS2 slim only made the system smaller and included features that could added to the original if wanted. I think it would be a horrible move on Microsofts part and really hurt their chances at becoming a serious console developer if they decide to release a 360 with HDMI built-in and exclude people who have one now.

I hope it is ok to discuss this topic here - I wanted to know the exact correlation between laptop use and male fertlity.

Does it affect your count only if you use it placed on the lap or even in general use like placing on the table or desk.

I read in a magazine that Apple computers don't have as much harm on your fertility as some PC's do...something with giving off something or other? Maybe it was BS...all I know is that this whole issue is not a Waughing matter.

A browser (which I like very much on the Mac side) couldn't be so deficient that it lacks the ability to play Flash?
Not true. it runs flash fine (if you're into that kind of thing). The Flash player installer just installs the Mozilla compatible plugin in the /plugins directory.

Firefox isn't deficient, and hasn't been... ever since it was called Phoenix. It rawks ;)

you guys are all talking like the G5 chip is here. Am I missing something or is all this just hopeful speculation and talk out your ^ss?

Until we actually see the damn thing, its really not even worth worrying about - how long has talk of the G5 been going on now anyway, years!?

I'd wait until IBM's little talk in October, that at least might shed some light one way or the other about what the next CPU will be.

For those who don't speak the lingo-

    Digital Rights Managment

It is a huge source of debate within the recording industry, the consumer, and the online stores who are selling digital management. This is what limits you to the number of times you can burn a playlist, play the music on other computers, and use it on portable devices. It is the recording industries way of reducing piracy of their software, but that is up to debate.

What is big is that there is no OS X binary yet, so we will see. I am also surprised the John has not focused on Janus yet, I hope he does because it would send a very clear message to the recording industry.

I personally use Hymn because I need my music to be compatible with Traktor and my Roku device. I think it will be very difficult for Apple to stop this unless they release a new "security" patch for iTunes modifying their protocol.

    Time will tell.

i wouldnt worry about a superdrive powerbook because now you can use an external burner with iDVD... yes thats right kiddies since apple is releasing iDVD commercially you dont need a superdrive to use it... the only drawback is that the burner still has to be pioneer (but i'm sure there a way around that) besides apple might be switching to sony dvd-burners if pioneer doesnt get their +r/rw tech done

Apple should just ditch Safari and throw its weight behind Firefox. The work done on Safari wouldn't be a total waste, though, since the lightweight rendering engine is used within iTunes (to render the music store).
