There have been reports of GPU's burning up from the heat while on standby.
This YouTube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xdWnsw3Yckc) is exactly what happened to my Wii. Now I have to send my Wii in to be serviced. Three weeks without my Wii, how will I pass the time?!
For the record, the innuendos were intentional.

While I have no idea, i don't think I like the idea of splitting the computers by making some have certain companie's chips and some have others. it seems to me that companies make their chips differently, so they should respond differently to the OS and the apps.
Is this true, or am I just saying stuff to raise my post count? :eek:

Just a thought but given that Apple has obviously been working on this for sometime and also given that Apple are extremely secretive, is it possible that a solution for this carbon problem has been thought of.
Also if Apple is stopping supporting OS 9 then the idea of moving to a platform that doesn't support this isn't as big a deal. Obviously then the main problem from what I can see is supporting carbon.

I just started folding with a Quad Core Mac PRO
with the
Mac OS X
(Intel)
SMP client w/
Installer
From first glances it is taking about 4min 45sec to complete one percent of the unit. When the Credit came across my folding account it appeared at 1 Processor
the time limit for the unit is about 2 days so this should get them done in about 9 hours when the computer is not doing other tasks.

Get advice from an accountant and a lawyer.
The lawyer will give you a thorough run down on your legal responsibilities - and there are a lot more than you will realise.
A good accountant is worth their weight in gold - mine has more than outweighed his charges, and I don't think we could function without him. It helps that we send him a lot of business :)
Get as many opinions as possible on your chosen ones - there are a lot of useless ones out there. Recommendations from people you already know are often the best, but you obviously have to weigh up their integrity.

Heya,
My techies pretty much trust me to install whatever I want on my own machine (and gave me admin privileges). They know I don't use illegal copies of anything, and they trust me to only use shareware that has been verified through reputable services (VersionTracker, etc.)
They first noticed F@H when my computer was having trouble with something else and they noticed me running at 100% CPU. After explaining what F@H was and how "Nice" programs worked, I just had to promise them Stanford wouldn't send me any viruses.
The good news is that we have 4 macs in our training room that I've recently convinced them to upgrade to OSX. Since I'm the only one who knows anything about OSX, I pretty much have control of those machines, so they all fold for my team. I named each of them (their F@H usernames) after the tech guys to try to get them into folding. And I get by keeping them on all night using "the Unix core runs Cron utilities during the night" as my excuse. ;)

If anyone's curious about my link, it actually does directly come from Apple's site. Apple, like many companies, contracts out the Investor Relations portion of their website to allow pros to handle all of the required information releases, etc. That's why the address is different...it comes from another site, but displays in a frame within Apple's own site as you navigate through it, integrating seamlessly so that you'd never know it's anything different unless you opened the frame directly (which I did in order to link to the anchor for that portion of the FAQ).

Robert Cringley writes an interesting opinion about what Apple should do now that they appear to be stepping into the world of windows virtualization. Topics range from Apple building an aqua port of Ooo to Apple's need to purchase Adobe.
Steve wants Windows applications to run like crazy on his hybrid platform but to look like crap. In his heart of hearts, he'd still like to beat Microsoft on the merits, not just by leveraging some clever loophole. So he needs the top ISVs who are currently writing for OS X to continue writing for OS X, and that especially means Adobe.
There's only one way to make that happen for sure, and that's for Apple to buy Adobe.

So did your price factor in the education discount? The stock Dual also comes with an 80gig 7200rpm drive and the G4MX. Ram is cheap you can get a gig for approximitely $200.
On the performance basis there isn't much until you start using it in the real world. Here's another link that will help you develop more questions. :)

The only real benefit the G4 has over the PPC970 is the L3 cache. The PPC970 really doesn't need it half as much though.

I think that Apple is a good deal now, at what, less than $15 per share. I need to open up an online trading account. I already have a 403b through work. It makes sense for a company to look at Apple and think it might be a good investment.
How about this... What if it is Pixar? Apple has bought all of these Digital cinema editing software companies. Pixar started out in that field. They must have some money with their Disney deal. Would that be insider trading? What if Apple and Pixar merge? Pixar sure could use a deal on XServe's for their render farms. Apple could be its own best market.
Just an idea.

I'm only 10 minutes into Firefox - but it sure seems smoother than Safari....
I hate to dis Apple - but at least this will hopefully motivate the Safari team to work harder....
Either way - out of the 4 or 5 browsers I have - they all do Mac Rumors just fine! Except ONLY my PC will let me put smilies in the correct place... my mac apps always put them at the botom of the post....,.

The funny thing is that Counter Strike Source isn't supposed to run on a Macbook because of the graphics card, but I altered the command line inside of Steam to make it run on DirectX 7.0 or DX 8.0 and it worked.
I can't figure out how to do that within BF2 though.
