Get the 700 and stick a good deal of RAM in it and enjoy Jaguar. I love it!!!!! Oh l love my iBook! hehe You will too...just do it and forget all the rumors and this and that...

Well, if I own a 15" iMac is not because of the price only, 15" are nice, small and easy to place on any desk top, the 17" looks like a mentally challenge computer, it takes a bit more room, it is ugly an heavy. In my case I rather have a 15" for what it does.
.... I'm just realising we are talking about the new iMacs, sorry :D

Clarify please. You just threw that out of the blue. I'm not understanding where you're getting that from.
What I meant to say is that the things we suggest and clamor for here are things which Apple already knows.
We aren't going to alter their course with any of our statements, save for that 1 in 1000.
Apple is a $5-7 billion dollar company (depending on AAPL when you read this). A full fledged chip maturation is a multi billion dollar process, thusly Apple relies on other larger companies to fab its chips. It provides input, but it is a slave to their whims. Sadly, Motorola's whims have not included advancing the G4 at a 'market leading' pace.
We can tell Apple what we want them to do, but they are aware, and they are doing.
A Power4 derivative with 160+ vector instructions just doesn't make sense for IBM to develop, if they don't have a specific user, or feel like adding Vector based instructions to AIX.
So do what you will, but know that you won't change the future in a positive way by vocalizing.

Maybe I misunderstood the above posts, but as far as I know, the iPod itself doesn't do any encoding. My powermac can certianly encode AAC, and in fact, I've been reripping CDs for a couple of days now. I should think it will only be a firmware upgrade to the iPod, I can't imagine any needed hardware change.

Less than 20 minutes...what, do you still remember the time you registered on the forums? My word!
and i am 40 years old
oh my god, i have been a member here for one tenth of my life
Boy, I'm glad I read that a second time. That made it sound like you'll live to be 400.
I've been lurking around the forums a bit since when MacRumors ran vBulletin version 1, and the vBul. v2 smilies had color. - I still want the original MacRumors smilies back. - So you could say I've been around here for 3 years, even though I've only been registered here for 2.3 years. It's kinda wierd though, because from one generation of MacRumors to another, I forget more and more about the original MacRumors contributors and keep thinking that it's a new MacRumors, meaning, new members that will swarm the place. So my point is: It feels different that I "know" you -- an original MacRumors contributor from before the 2002 era -- and that I'm still talking to you online even though there have been some tens of thousands of new members.
Then again, I also "know" you as networkman, julianahatfield, my adopted punk father (mother)... http://www.thetechpub.com/phpBB2/images/smiles/new_shocked.gif

I still have the NES that I got when I was five years old. Up until recently, I actually used my old N64 - unfortunately it met an untimely death at the hands of small children...okay, not really small, just 13 and stupid :(

I bet Apple's Lawyers are happy with the Supreme this week.
Creative wants an immediate injunction, Apple will say NO we probably won't have to because ...
U.S. Supreme Court sides with eBay in victory for patent reformers (http://news.findlaw.com/ap/o/51/05-15-2006/056f001358d58724.html)
Even if Apple loses, it'll be license fees years from now.
Chances are it's not too big an investor worry right now.

I have to agree with this opinion. At my work, the only thing that PC laptops use their PCMCIA slots for are connectivity options. By this I mean Ethernet, modem, WI-FI. All of these are accounted for in an iBook without needing a PCMCIA slot. Cutting edge/emerging technologies use PC card slots, but these are usually for a very work specific application, and since an iBook is for someone that needs to be able to do basic computer functions on the road, it is not necessary for the iBook platform in general.

Verizon has a new DSL with 6,000,000 bits per second download bandwidth which is 4 times faster than T1. The cost is about $70 a month for unlimited bandwidth.
You can download a 200 gigabyte file in about 75 hours at that rate. Not bad.
Peter
Go here to see if Verizon DSL is available for your area

Sorry about the math error

Too bad... wonder why they would raise prices on a 9 mth old model!
Here in Canada we get pretty close to the exchange- except if Our dollar goes up or down a lot between Apple's pricing updates.

I got to admit, I'm a little disapointed by Connect24. I was led to expect that a lot more fun content would be automatically downloaded in standby mode. Oh well, life goes on.
While I agree that I would like more content and use for WiiConnect24, we all have to keep in mind that the Wii is still in very early stages of its life. Look how long it took Xbox Live to become really useful and full featured. You can't expect Nintendo to roll out a fully featured online interface within the first few months of its life.
Give them a change, things will get better.

Does DDRAM produce extra heat? if so, Apple may leave it out for now, especially if it does not make much difference to performance. However, if they go for the marketing position, they will include it. DDRAM sounds better.

Am I the only one who doesn't find Firefox particularly speedy on the Mac? When I bring up a page, I see the page being visibly drawn downwards line by line (it's hard to describe) instead of blinking into view at once.
Also, middle-clicking links to open in background tabs doesn't seem to work. I can't browse without that functionality.
Camino has the same gecko rendering engine as Firefox, but it's very, very speedy for me! And the middle-click thing works.
Admittedly though, the Firefox interface looks nicer and cleaner.
I'm thinking that you're the only one because for me, Firefox is more speedy than Camino and web pages are quickly shown in all cases. Of course, media requiring a plug-in slows them down--equally. Pages without such media are shown almost instantly.

Did anybody else notice this. I went to the Mac OS X part of version tracker and clicked on the Mac OS X Modem Update. It said in its list of computers that it was for teh Dual 1 GHz and the Dual 1.5 GHz mirrored doors. Just some typo, just thought of it being interesting.

Is the 9000 Pro just more memory than the 9000? Why did apple replace the 8500 on the old machines if the 9000 is slower? Also, wasn't the GF4MX the chip above the 8500 in the Quicksilvers?
Thanks
